This is the ninth annual Loch Gorm Single Malt to be released by Kilchoman. Each release is differentiated by the distillation and bottling dates on the front of the bottle and gift carton.
Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm releases are traditionally matured in ex Oloroso sherry casks from the renowned bodega, Jose Miguel Martin and this latest edition is no exception.
These ex-oloroso sherry casks impart a combination of heavy sherry notes, spicy dark chocolate, rich fruits and burnt sugar. This balances beautifully with the Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus fruits found within this farm crafted spirit.
Loch Gorm, exclusively sherry matured limited edition has been a feature of the Kilchoman range since 2012. The 2020 edition is made up of 21 oloroso sherry butts filled in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011, bottled at 46% abv without any chill filtration and colouring.
This release is 15,500 bottles.
This range is named after a famously peaty loch over looked by the distillery; Kilchoman draws water for the production of Loch Gorm and their other releases from the burn that runs into the loch.
“The peat smoke and citrus sweetness of the Kilchoman spirit pairs beautifully with the rich influence of these oloroso sherry casks.
Overall there are a lot of similarities between the 2019 and 2020 expressions however the 2020 bottling is much more fruit forward, there’s a bit less of the dry sherry influence and more dried fruits and cinnamon sweetness”
