About Kilchoman 100% Islay 2019 - 9th - Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

2019 marks the arrival of the 9th Edition Kilchoman 100% Islay.

Kilchoman’s 9th Edition 100% Islay was distilled from 2007 and 2009 barley harvests before being matured in ex-bourbon barrels for over 9 years.

After 9 years of maturation Kilchoman founder, Anthony Wills, selected 43 ex-bourbon barrels, marrying the intense vanilla and butterscotch influence of the bourbon soaked barrels with the natural citrus sweetness and peat smoke of Kilchoman.

The combination of lightly peated barley and bourbon barrel maturation creates layers of citrus sweetness, toasted caramel and soft peat smoke.

The 100% Islay range is peated to a lower level of roughly 20ppm though this is not an exact measurement given the small batches and old-style techniques make it almost impossible to peat each batch to exactly the same level.
