About Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Triple Distilled Cognac Cask Finish

This Glasgow 1770 is a marriage of three casks; 18/965, 18/966 and 18/967, initially filled into first-fill ex-bourbon casks for just under three years. For a secondary maturation, the finish, these three casks were moved into French Cognac puncheon casks for a further two and a half years. 

Primary maturation: 2 years and 10 months

Secondary maturation: 2 years and 6 months 

What’s the difference from the last Cognac release?
Last year in 2022, Glasgow Distillery released the first two bottlings of the ‘Small Batch Series’ where they launched the first Cognac cask finish using their peated spirit. The previous peated release started out in virgin oak casks before finishing in the cognac cask. With this Cognac Cask Finish, their Triple Distilled unpeated spirit has been use, which was primarily matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. The apple and pear notes commonly found in Glasgow 1770 Signature Range Triple Distilled single malt are highlighted with the Cognac cask finish extending layers of green apples, poached pears and a rich vanilla undertone. A fantastically fruity release that demonstrates the smooth and vibrant qualities found in the increasingly wide portfolio of Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled single malts.


Nose: Bright orchard fruits, fresh green apples and rich poached pear with slight floral undertones.


Palate: Smooth and delicate with notes of rich vanilla ice cream, creamy shortbread and citrus fruits with a gentle fruity undertone throughout.


Finish: Long satisfying finish with notes of tropical fruits and fresh ginger with hints of toffee and a bright citrus spice.
