About Inchgower 27 Year Old 2018 Special Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Introducing the first-ever Inchgower Special Release in this series which is a complex, surprising whisky from a distillery with a heart-warming back story, which starts sweetly then becomes crisply aromatic and drying with a beautiful bitter-sweet drying finish.

This release is a 27 year old expression bottled at cask strength from refill American oak hogsheads.

Appearance: Full, yellow gold. Fine beading.

Nose: Dry and savoury overall. A brief hint of struck match, then ripe fruits ona drier, herbal and slightly spicy base; fruit boxes packed with ripe red apples,a dusty malt barn, hessian sacks and walnuts, on a base of nut brittle toffee.Subtly aromatic, with mature oaky vanilla, dark chocolate; dry sawdust and French polish. Later, sweet hints of melon.

Body: Light to medium.

Palate: Cool and prickly, with a smooth texture and a taste that begins sweeter than expected; a sugary fruit compote. Soon drying, powerful and mint clean, underscored by a charred pithy bitterness; slightly flinty and toasty, growing increasingly appetising, with dark chocolate and grape skins; then sapid and savoury.

Finish: Long, with considerable spice; herbal, with drying cedar and clove, and black tea notes. A charred and savoury note lingers, such as might be found on a rested char-grilled rare steak.

Inchgower distillery is located on the outskirts of Buckie, the whisky is rarely seen as a Single Malt and excitingly different for a Speyside. The house style is crisp and aromatic which has led to its being nicknamed “the Manzanilla of Speyside”, after the Sherry with a similarly distinctive style.
