Whisky an' a' That

Whisky An’ A’ That was born from a small idea way back in the Spring of 2003.
Robin Russell, proprietor of Robbie’s Drams Whisky store and Robbie’s Whisky Merchants was growing disillusioned by the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the whisky industry with regard to the promotion of our national drink on home soil.
This led to him pulling together a series of week-long tasting events by many of his suppliers within his Ayr store to celebrate the water of life. They proved so popular that he decided to conduct the same event the following summer. Again, the interest in Scotch whisky was sparked and so he decided to expand the idea for the following year and develop it into a full-blown festival.

The true spirit of our festival, and indeed our physical and online shops, is the enjoyment of whisky. The key aspect is to find something that gives you great pleasure and brings a smile to your face whether you be enjoying a quiet dram to yourself or surrounded by friends and family. That is what we are about.

Fast forward to 2016 and we have recently celebrated our thirteenth event.

“I started Whisky An’ A’ That to help develop people’s interest in Scotch whisky, a product that I am so very proud of. It has played a lead role in my working and social life for more years than I care to remember and I felt that it was time to prove that it wasn’t the old-fashioned and boring drink that many believed it to be! The Festival has grown tremendously over the past eleven years with new innovations being added annually to keep it fresh and up to speed with what developments take place in the wonderful world of whisky. The focus of our festival, and indeed our physical and online shops is to help you to enjoy whisky. Of course it is nice to understand the prestige behind special bottlings and how the whisky is produced, but the key aspect is to find something that gives you great pleasure and brings a smile to your face whether you be enjoying a quiet dram to yourself or surrounded by friends and family. That is what we are about.
It must be remembered that the event is only possible thanks to the enthusiasm shown by the Robbie’s Drams and Robbie’s Whisky Merchants team and the wonderful supporting companies whom I deal with from the largest distillery owners to the smallest, the Independents and everyone in between.
Looking forward to next year’s festival and I hope to see you there!

Slainte!"
