About Bunnahabhain 10 Year Old - 2011 - Aonadh - Limited Release - Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bunnahabhain 10 Year Old - 2011 - Aonadh - Limited Release - Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Gaelic for “Union", and pronounced "oon ouch", this 10 year old single malt is the perfect marriage of both the finest port finished Bunnahabhain, and sherry matured Bunnahabhain. Each of these have then been brought together post maturation, to form this unique spirit.
The result is an intriguing intertwining auburn dram, alive with aromas of vanilla, caramel and oak, and imbued with fulsome fruit flavours and a harmonious marriage of cinnamon spice and nuts. Dancing daintily on the tongue, it echoes with salty whispers of the seas that once surrounded it.

Bottled at 56.2%, unchillfiltered and natural colour.

Tasting Notes.

Colour: Deep Auburn.

Nose: Rich creamy vanilla with notes of brandy butter, caramel, indulgent berries and a subtle hint of oak.

Palate: Sweet red and black fruits are complimented with a  cinnamon spice, roasted nuts and a slight saltiness coming through at the back.

Finish: Long finish with a fading spice reminiscent of chilli chocolate and hints of floral candy.

The Story

Established in 1881 and built close to the Mouth of the Margadale river, Bunnahabhain means Mouth of The River in Gaelic. Bunnahabhain is the only distillery on Islay to produce whisky using pure spring water. Most northerly of the Islay Distilleries – situated on the north east tip of the island. Overlooking the Sound of Islay, a vast stretch of sea travelled by many a seafarer, as illustrated by the helmsman on the pack, Bunnahabhain’s wonderfully remote location makes it an idyllic place for whisky distillation.

Bunnahabhain was once ruled by the sea; until 1960, all deliveries arrived by boat. Today, the waves bring a very different cargo – crew and passengers venturing ashore, often from stunning ocean-going yachts.
