Ledaig (Pronounced "Led-Chig") is Gaelic for "Safe Haven" and refers to the original name for the area, with the idea being that once the sea-farers reached the harbour they would be safe from the fierce, West Coast seas.
This Ledaig 1996 is a new annual Limited Release small batch production. introduced to accompany the already existing small core range of Ledaig malts currently available.
Matured in superior Oloroso sherry casks the result is a wonderfully peated single malt, with apple and a hint of mint with citrus aromas. These disappear into the dark as the peaty embers glow into a smoky finale.
Nose: Fragrant smoke, toffee caramel, seaweed, apple with a hint of mint and a few citrus notes.
Palate:Crackling peat sets off millions of flavour explosions on the palate, black pepper then bursts then a light sherry sweetness.
Finish: Smooth with a spicy salty tail, these disappear into the dark as the peaty embers glow into a smoky finale.
