Blended Malt
Blended Malt Whisky is whisky that has been produced by blending together two or more Single Malt Whiskies from different distilleries. The Scottish Whisky Association introduced the term in 2008 following a scandalous turn of events involving the deception of customers in terms of what type of product they were actually receiving.
The term replaced the outcasts "Vatted Malt" and "Pure Malt". Vatted Malt was deemed to be too confusing for those not fully immersed in the trade and asides from that, the majority of single malts are vatted in a sense anyway. "Pure Malt", the phrase which caused the change in legal naming was deemed to be two vague and open to interpretation as a result.
