The domestic whisky industry is Sweden is expanding very rapidly.
In 1998, the Machmyra company was founded. Construction of their distillery began in 2002 as did their production of distilled spirit. The first bottling of Machmyra was released in 2006 and since then they have become a worldwide name in whisky.
In addition, since 2006, 8 more Swedish distilleries have been constructed.
